Conan the Barbarian featuring Arnold Schwarzenegger was a formative film for me. Here was the fantasy genre taken seriously with characters who felt real and themes that spoke to human nature. This bust sculpted by Raul Garcia Latore captured Conan perfectly so I had to bring him alive with my paint as a tribute to this character and film.

I’ve uploaded a new gallery featuring my work “Going Home”. This work depicts a wounded US soldier from the Vietnam war. With my work I seek to be both evocative and technically excellent. I feel this piece achieves my goal. With these pictures I hope you can open up and experience the work for yourself.

“The Prison of Medusa” Gallery is live

The gallery of my piece “The Prison of Medusa” has been added to the Fine Art Miniatures Gallery. The original sculpture by Mindworks Studio was modified with the face being resculpted to give a different expression. The diorama was produced by hand. The painting of this diorama was inspired by the artwork “Egyptian Queen” by Frank Frazetta. Winner of Best Diorama at Las Vegas Open 2024.

The Ice Fisherman of Titan Gallery is up!

Today the Cassini Space craft makes it’s final plunge into the atmosphere of Saturn. In honor of this great achievement I want to share a project of mine that was inspired by Cassini’s great journey: The Ice Fisherman of Titan.

His skin is cracked and weathered beyond his years. Yet, in his eyes, hope shines like rings glittering in the light of a distant sun.

This project is dedicated to My Father Stephen DiPietro. Thank you for always encouraging me to shoot for the stars no matter how distant. I love you Dad.

Sketchbook 2016 added to the gallery page

Contrast Miniature’s first year marked the start of many explorations into methods of painting. I found that I liked the concept of sketching on miniatures and used some form of sketching in all my work going forward. So I thought it would be fun to share a collection of all my sketches for the year. Here they are… some are in black and white others in unadulterated color. Still others are gestural sculptures.
